Found in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru in cold wet forests at elevations around 2500 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with erect, slender ramicauls enveloped by a tubular sheath near the middle and 2 to 3 others at the base carrying an erect, coriaceous, elliptical, subacute to obtuse, narrowly cuneate below into the indistinct subpetiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer on a loose, arising through a spathe from an annulus below the apex of the ramicaul, subsecund, .8 to 1.6" [2 to 4 cm] long, simultaneously few flowered, racemose inflorescence .

Luer feels this one is distinct from P obovata with which it is often allied but they differ in P citrina having 1 to 3 erect, distantly flowered racemose inflorescence that often reach beyond the middle of the leaf, P obovata on the other hand have disheveled, shorter than the leaf, more congested, few flowered racmose inflorescence
