Common Name The Long-Pointed Petal Pleurothallis
Flower Size .8" [2 cm]
Found in Costa Rica, Chiriqui province of Panama, Putumayo department of Colombia and Pichincha province of Ecuador at elevations of 1500 to 2500 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool to cold growing, densely caespitose epiphyte with slender, erect ramicaul enveloped by 2, thin, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly elliptical-obovate, subacute to obtuse, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the fall and winter on an erect, arising laterally from the ramicaul, 2" [5 cm] long, loose, flexuous, successively single, several flowered inflorescence with oblique, acute, shorter than the pedicel floral bracts.
"Characterized by densely caespitose, abbreviated secondary stems bearing obovate leaves. The sepals and petals of the relatively large, widely spread flowers are attenuated, the petals remarkedly so. The lip bespeaks an alliance with Pleurothallis barbulata which produce minute flowers in compact racemes or fascicles. Pleurothallis cuspidata is apparently more closely allied to the racemose P. abbreviata and P fractiflexa The former is a much smaller plant with less attenuate petals, and the latter is distinguished by pubescent petals."
