Found in Morona-Santiago province of Ecuador at elevations around 1000 meters as a mini-miniature sized, warm growing, caespitose epiphyte with slender, erect ramicauls with a tubular sheath below the middle and 2 others at the base and carrying a single, suberect to spreading, coriaceous, ovate, acute, sklightly acuminate, deepl cordate below into the sessile base leaf that blooms in the spring on a resting and arising and concealed by a spathe at the base of the leaf, successively single, few flowered inflorescence with a tubular, as long as to longer than the pedicel floral bract.
The long stemmed, deeply cordate, ovate leaf is standard for the section, however a combination of several features separates this species from others. The elliptical, deep, wine red dorsal sepal is 5 veined and the similarly shaped synsepal is white, suffused with rose. The subulate, glabrous petals are deep winr red and widely spread. The oblong lip is basically white but generously dotted with deep red cells.
