Full Shade Warm to Cool Fall to Winter

found in Alajuela and Cartago provinces of central Costa Rica at elevations of 900 to 1500 meters as a medium sized, warm to cool growing, caespitose epiphyte with slender, erect, ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, ovate, acute leaf that has a broadly cuneate, sessile base that blooms in the fall and winter on an erect then arching, arising from a reclining spathe, distichous, sublax to congested, simultaneously many flowered, 4" to 8" [10 to 20 cm cm] long inflorescence with a thin, infundibular, as long to longer than the pedicel floral bract.

"A large species with rather dense racemes of small purplish flowers tat are shorter than the sessile leaf. The dorsal sepal and similar synsepal are suborbicular and deeply concave. The petals are proportionally large with a margin that varies from minutely erose to coarsely fimbriate. The triangular lip is acute with erect, basal angles." Luer 1998
