LATE EARLY

Common Name The Spheroid Pleurothallis [refers to the sphere shaped flower]

Flower Size .4" [1 cm]

Found in Antioquia department of Colombia at elevations around 2500 meters as a small sized, cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with slender, erect ramicauls with a thin tubular sheath above the base and another at the base and carrying a single, apical, horizontal to spreading, coriaceous, ovate, acute, slightly acuminate, cordate below into the sessile base leaf that blooms in the late fall and early winter on a reclining, arising through and concealed by a slender spathe, peduncle .08" [2 mm] long, concealed within the spathe, fascile of successively single, few flowered inflorescence with just shorter than the pedicel floral bracts and carrying red, non-resupinate flowers.

"Easily recognized by the red [sometimes pinky white], roundish, non-resupinate flowers. The middle sepals and synsepal are subspherical and concave. Projecting from either side of the flower are the broad petals. The broad, flat, cordate lip with unusually long basal lobes that surround the column is proportionally large and it lies against the synsepal." Luer 2005
