Common Name or Meaning The Brick-Red Pleurothallis

Found in Jamaica, Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Colombia at elevations of 800 to 1500 meters as a miniature sized, warm to cool growing, caespitose epiphyte with an erect ramicaul carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, linear-lanceolate, acute to obscurely tridenticulate, gradually narrowing below into the elongate, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the fall and winter on an erect to ascending to horizontal, laterally from the ramicaul, single, filiform, 1 to 1.12" [2.5 to 2.8 cm] long, 1 to 3 flowered inflorescence with less than half as long as the pedicel floral bracts.
"Characterized by a small, caespitose habit, a short ramicaul and lax racemes of 2 to 3 brick red flowered racemes about as long as the leaves. The sepals and petals are obtuse and the simple lip is arcuate and shallowly channeled." Luer 2006
