Common Name or Meaning The Wide Petaled Pleurothallis
Flower Size .6" [1.5 cm]
Found in Antioquia, Cauca and Valle de Cauca departments of Colombia at elevations around 800 to 1500 meters as a medium sized, warm to cool growing, caespitose epiphyte with erect, slender ramicauls enveloped by a closely adpressed, tubular sheath below the middle and 2 to 3 others at the base and carrying a single, apical, spreading to deflexed, coriaceous, ovate, acute, sessile and deeply cordate base leaf that blooms in the spring and summer on fascile, arising through an erect, foliaceous spathe, of successive single flowered inflorescence with a tubular, shorter than the pedicel floral bract.
"Characerized by the large, horizontal to deflexed, cordate leaf with a conspicuous, erect spathe from which the flowers emerges. The sepals and petals are striped in purple brown while the whitish lip is triangular with an acutely deflexed base." Luer 2005
