Found in Antioquia department of Colombia at elevations around 2600 meters as a medium sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with stout erect ramicauls enveloped basally by a close fitting, tubular sheath above the base and another at the base and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, ovate, subacute, acuminate, sessile and deeply cordate base leaf that blooms in the spring on a loose, distichous, strict, arising through a reclining spathe, 12 to 14" [30 to 35 cm] long, simultaneously many flowered inflorescence with a thin, tubular, much shorter than the pedicel floral bract.
"Readily distinguished by the large, prolific habit. The lax raceme is long, strict and erect and the pedicels are elongate. The dorsal sepal and synsepal are simila, ovate and acuminate. The petals are deeply fringed. The lip is broadly cordate with eret, rounded basal lobes with the margins of the middle lobe minutely fimbriate. In the center of the disc there is a well defined, minute, rounded callus." Luer 1998
