Common Name Matuda's Pleurothallis [Mexican discoverer of species 1900's]
Flower Size 3/8" [1 cm]
Often spelled incorectly as P matudina or matudiana.
Found in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Ecuador and Bolivia at elevations of 1000 to 2400 meters in wet montane forests and mountain cloud forests as a medium sized, cool to cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with an erect, terete ramicaul, carrying a single, apical, ovate-lanceolate, cordate and conduplicate at the base leaf that blooms in the spring through fall on a fascile of short, nestled up against sinus of the cordate leaf base, arising through a spathe, peduncle .04 to .08" [1 to 2 mm] long, successively single, few flowered inflorescence with thin, tubular, shorter than the pedicel floral bracts.
Easily differentiated by the thick, more or less arcuate, sulcate lip. Vegetatively variable the medium sized flower remains constant with acute sepals between .24 to .32" [6 to 8 mm] long, . The colors are variable from green suffused or occasionally mottled with brown or purple, especially alongthe veins. The petals are narrow and smooth and longer tha the lip. The lip is oblong-ovate, subacute to obtuse and longitudinally sulcate between thickened sides of the disc. The lip is relatively thick and more or less arcuate, especially above the base where the broad, central channel is the deepest with a comparitively large glenion." Luer 2005
