Found in Espirito Santo state of Brazil in iselbergs covered with dry seasonal forests and in montane Atlantic coastal forests at elevations around 200 to 550 meters as a mini miniature to just small sized, hot to warm growing, caespitose epiphyte with cylindrical, green ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3 thin, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, dark green, thickly coriaceous, muricate on both sides, obovate to oblong, slightly sulcate on the anaxial surface, the base acute, obtuse and apiculate apically, margins slightly reflexed, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the fall on an erect, arising from near the apex of the ramicaul, subflexuous, 1.2 to 3.6" [3 to 9 cm] long, successively 1 to 2, several flowered inflorescence with tubular, purplish-lilac, half as long as the pedicel floral bracts and carrying resupinate flowers.

"This new species is similar to P fusca and P villosisepala from which it is distinguished by the shape, texture, and size of the leaves, and floral morphology. In P muricatifolia the leaves are obovate to oblong, thick, coriaceous, muricate on both surfaces, and less than 1.08" [2.7 cm] long, the flowers are resupinate, the sepals are papillate on the apical portion, and the lip is distinctly 3-lobed, obtuse and papillate at apex, whereas in P fusca and in P villosisepala the leaves are lanceolate to elliptic-lanceolate, chartaceous, more than 1.6" [4 cm] long, the flowers are non-resupinate, the sepals are velvety on the apical portion, and the lip is entire or indistinctly 3-lobed with a rounded, smooth to verruculose apex."
