Common Name The Pendant Flower Pleurothallis

Found in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru at elevations of 2200 to 2800 meters as a medium to large sized, cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with a stout, erect ramicaul enveloped basally by 2 close, tubular, evanescent sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, spreading, ovate to oblong-ovate, acute, rounded to subcordate basally leaf that blooms in the spring and fall on 1 to 5, arising through a spathe at the leaf base, erect to arching to pendant, subcongesteed, distichous, simultaneously racemose, 7.2" to 12" [18 to 30 cm] long, many flowered inflorescence with a tubular, as long to longer than the pedicel floral bract.
”Characterized by long, stout ramicauls carrying large cordate leaves and blooms with long, relatively large flowered racemes of either yellow or purple flowers. The middle sepal and the cucullate-uppermost sepal are acute, the petals are narrowly linear and the lip is tri-lobed with the lobes broadly subfalcate.” Luer 1999
