Common Name The Heart-Shaped Leaf Pleurothallis
Flower Size .8" [2 cm]
Found in Alajuela, Heridia, Cartgo, San Jose, Puntarenas and Limon provinces of Costa Rica and Chiriqui province of Panama at elevations of 1300 to 2500 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with slender, erect ramicauls enveloped by a long, tubular sheath below the middle and 2 to 3, shorter basal sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, deflexed, broadly cordate-ovate, more or less concave, acute, deeply cordate and sessile below with overlapping lobes leaf that blooms in the later spring through early fall on a fascile, arising from the base of the leaf, through a suberect, conduplicate spathe with the peduncle confined within, short to .1 to .15" [2 to 3 mm] long, successively single, few flowered inflorescence with a thin, m,uch shorter than the pedicel floral bract.
"Related to P cardiostola but characterized by an acutely deflexed, deeply cordate leaf, a dark purple flower emerging from an erect spathe and commonly facing downward. The sepals are acute, the petals are most commonly narrowly oblong and the lip is transversely triangular and obtuse with the lateral angles subacute. The disc is cellular-papillose above the middle and shallowly concave below the middle to either side of the glenion." Luer 2005
