Common Name The Broad Sepal Pleurothallis [refers to the dorsal sepal]
Flower Size 1/2" [1.25 cm]
Found in Cauca and Valle de Cauca departments of Colombia in wet montane forests at elevations of 2000 to 2600 meters as a small to medium sized, cold growing, caespitose epiphytye with an erect, slender ramicaul with a close tubular sheath on the lower third and 2 others at the base and carrying, a single, erect, coriaceous, narrowly elliptic-obovate, subacute, slightly acuminate, narrowly cuneate below into the sessile base leaf that blooms in the fall on a fascile, arising through a narrow spathe, of successively single, few flowered inflorescence witha tubular, half as long or less than the pedicel floral bract.
"Distinguished by the large habit with slender ramicauls that bear narrowly obovate leaves that are narrowly cunete below nto a sessile base. The red-brown, cellular-papillose flowers are comparitoely large with a broad, suborbicular dorsal sepal and a narrower synsepal Thepetals are denticulate and the lip is short and subquartate."
