Common Name Riksen's Pleurothallis [Dutch Orchid Collector and Cultivator current]
Flower Size .24" [6 mm]
Found in ?southeastern Ecuador? without locational data as a small sized, caespitose epiphyte with erect, slender, terete ramicauls enclosed by a tubular, papery basal sheath, and a tightly adpressed, tubular sheath below the middle and carrying a single, apical, horizontal to acutely deflexed, coriaceous, narrowly-ovate, acute, deeply cordate below into the sessile base leaf that blooms on an erect, short, rarely in pairs, from an oblique spathe at the base of the leaf, peduncle .08" [2 mm] long, a fascicle of successively single, few flowered inflorescence with a shorter than the pedicel floral bract and carrying non-resupinate flowers.
"Part of the Pleurothallis cardiostola/Pleurothallis lilijae complex. Pleurothallis rikseniana is most similar to P. lilijae but can be easily distinguished by the lip length (.1 to .108" [2.5–2.7 mm] long in P. rikseniana versus ca. .152" [3.8 mm] long in P. lilijae); shape (ovate-short triangular in P. rikseniana versus narrowly ovate in P. lilijae; concavity (deeply concave in P. rikseniana versus shallowly concave in P. lilijae); and presence/absence of labellar sulcus (glenion continuous with deep, linear sulcus in P. rikseniana versus distinct, circular glenion and no sulcus)."
