Common Name or Meaning The "S" Shaped Pleurothallis [refers to the lip shape]

Found in the province of Guanacaste in Costa Rica at elevations of 500 to 1000 meters as a mini-miniature sized, warm growing, shortly repent to caespitose epiphyte with stout, erect to suberect ramcauls enveloped by 2 loose tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, thickly coriaceous, narrowly elliptical, fusiform, acute, more or less conduplicate below into the sessile base leaf that blooms in the fall and winter on an erect, arising through a spathe at the base of the leaf, loose, slightly flexuous, peduncel 1.6 to 2" [to to 5 cm] long, rachis to 2 to 2.4" " [5 to 6 cm] long, successively single, several flowered inflorescence with infundibulrar, as long as the pedicel floral bracts.
"Pleurothallis sigmoidea is identified the small, thick, conduplicate, sessile leaves and a considerably longer raceme of successive flowers. The sepals are carinate and minutely ciliate; the petals are bilobulate at the base; the blade of the lip is oblong, obtuse, cellular-glandular, erose bilobulate at the base and channeled medially; and the claw is decurved and bitobulate at the base" Luer 1994
