Found in Azuay province of Ecuador at elevations aroumd 3000 meters as a medium sized, cold growing, caespitose lithophyte with stout, erect to suberect ramicauls with a tubular sheath below the middle and 2 more at the base carrying a single, suberect to spreading, thickly coriaceous, ovate, acute, acuminate, sessile, cordate base leaf that blooms in the later spring on a short .08" [2 mm] long peduncle hidden within the reclining spathe .68" [17 mm] long, single flowered inflorescence with a tubular, just shorter than the pedicel floral bract and carrying flowers with yellow sepals, veined and lightly suffused with tan, subverrucose along the veins, yellow petals and the glabrous lip yellow orange.
"This medium sized species similar to the relatively frequent P nephroglossum is apparently rare on the eastern slope of the Andes of southern Ecuador . It is distinguished by the slightly smaller, yellow flowers with a proportionally wider, obtuse, sepals. The petals are broader and without papillae. The lip is suborbicular, essentially smooth and also devoid of papillae, with a truncate, non-cordate base. The species is most similatr to P llanganatensis but differs in the suborbicular lip without decurved sides." Luer 2005
