Common Name or Meaning The Tuberculate Pleurothallis [refers to verrucose lip]

Found in Zamora-Chinchipa province of Ecuador in forests at elevations aroumd 3050 meters as a medium sized, cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with slender, erect ramicauls with a close tubular sheath in the lower third and 2 others at the base carrying a single, erect, coriaceous, narrowly oboovate, acute, sessile, shallowly cordate with the sides revolute base leaf that blooms in the summer on a fascile of short peduncles hidden within the spathe, .4" [1 cm] long, successively single flowered inflorescence with a tubular, just shorter than the pedicel floral bract and carrying a flower with purple, sparsely shortly pubescent within sepals, purple petals, and a dark purple-black lip.
"Vegetativley this species, from a high elevation in southern Ecuador, is distinct with the narrowly obovate leaves bourne by long slender ramicauls, the base of the leaf is shallowly cordate with the sides of the leaf recurved in the lower third to accentuate the obovate appearance of the leaf. The purple flowers are charaterized by an obtuse, three veined dorsal sepal, narrow, acute, denticulate petals as long as the synsepal, and a thick purple black, ovoid lip with the convex surface minutely verrucose."
