Found in Guantanamao province of eastern Cuba in humid and shady places in montane rainforests, mesophyllous evergreen rainforests, gallery forests and charrascales from 300 to 900 meters as a hot to warm growing, subrepent epiphyte with very short, ascending ramicauls enveloped completely by 3, membraneous, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, ellipticto obovate to suborbicular, obtuse to rounded, minutely tridentate, green to greenish purple, shortly attenuate into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the winter and spring on 1 to 3, arising through a tubular sheath with an annulus, terminal, capilar, erect, glabrous, .1 to .15" [2 to 3 mm] long, generally single flowered inflorescence with infundibular, acute, as long as the pedicel floral bract.
"Similar to P lichenicola but it is distinguished by the more or less thickened apices of the light yellow sepals and purple labellum. The apex of the labellum is not contracted and thickened as in P wrightii." Ackerman 2014
