Found in Santa Catarina state of Brazil in montane forests at elevations of 800 to 900 meters as a small sized, cool growing terrerstrial with 1 to 2, perrenial, green with white spots, ovate, 5-nerved, margins entire, glabrous, apex acute, canaliculate below into the petioalte base leaves that blooms in the later spring on an erect, terminal, pilose, peduncle 9.4 to 10.2" [23.5 to 25.5 cm] long, provided with 5to 6, linear-lanceolate, slightly imbricate, to not imbricate, margin free sheathing bracts, rachis .4 to .56" [1 to 1.4 cm] long, congested, few-flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acute, pilose, longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying white, resupinate flowers

"S. Sarcoglottis catharinensis has flowers similar to S. itararensis , with the truncate lip apex with two calluses, and is similar to Sarcoglottis alexandri , with petiolate, ovate leaves and the lip pilose at the ventral face with two calluses. S. catharinensis is differentiated by the shape of the lip without constriction, entire margin and apex rostrate, truncate and entire; while S. itararensis has the lip glabrous at the ventral face, slightly denticulate margin and revolute constricted apex and S. alexandri has the lip apex constricted, trilobate and rounded."
