Common Name or Meaning Cogniaux's Veyretia [French Botanist in Brazil Late 1800's]
Flower Size 1/2" [1.25 cm]
Found in Minas Gerais state of Brazil as a miniature sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial orchid with leafless at flowering, that blooms on an erect, peduncle 1.2 to 3.52" [3 to 8.8 cm] long, pubescent provided and enveloped by pubescent, lanceolate, acute sheathing bracts, rachis 1.6 to 2" [4 to 5 cm] long, lax, 5 to 6 flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acute, pubescent, as long as to longer than the ovary, floral bracts and carrying large flowers
Schlechter stated that this species has an affinity to Veyretia rupicola but V cogniaux has twice larger flowers and the lip has a narrower base and is spathuarly elongated forward on the wavy, margins and has linear and the obtuse basal auricles are slightly shorter.
