Common Name or Meaning The Light Pink Sarcoglottis

Found in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras and El Salvador in oak-pine forests at elevations of 800 to 2300 meters as a miniature sized, warm to cold growing lithophyte with 3 to 4, in a rosette of basal, bluish green with silver stripes, sessile, orbicular, elliptic-ovate to oblong-elliptic, obtuse, rarely subacute, petiolate base leaves leaves that are present at blooming which occurs in the late spring and summer on an erect, olive green, white pubescent, peduncle 6 to 12.4" [15 to 31 cm] long, provided with 3 to 5, shorter than the internodes, glabrous sheathing bracts, rachis 1.6 to 4" [4 to 10 cm] long, subdense, occasionally sublax, multilateral, 5 to 15 flowered inflorescence with green, acute, as long as to longer than the ovary floral bracts.

Schlechter in his description of S ochracea [a synonym of S rosulata] states that it was similar to e Sarcoglottis schaffneri but differs in the but has smaller, narrower leaves, and somewhat smaller flowers with a less bulbous spur in the front. The lips are similar but S rosulata has an ovate anterior lobe is almost directly projecting forward and slightly wavy at the margins, being distinctly wider thatn the lower oblanceolae part. In Sarcoglottis schaffneri the lower half of the lip is almost linear, then it is obovate and broadened at the front with a short, very broadly ovate anterior lobe.
