Found in Amazonas department of Colombia, Amazonas state of Venezuela and Guyana in rather open, wet forests rich in ferns and mosses and on mossy sandstone boulders, at elevations around 100 to 625 meters as a miniature to just small sized, hot to warm growing terrestrial with 2 to 5, in a basal rosette, elliptic to broadly elliptic, acute to rarely obtuse, adaxially solid purple brown or blotched or marbled with olive green, abaxially deep green to solid purple, narrowly canaliculate into the petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late summer and early fall on an erect, terminal, peduncle 3.6 to 6" [9 to 15 cm] long, sparsely pubescent, provided with 3, triangular, free, acuminate, veined sheathing bracts, rachis 1.2 to 2" [3 to 5 cm] long, densely 3 to 7 flowered inflorescence with small, linear, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying small, white flowers.

"The new species can be distinguished by the small size (4 to 6.4" [10 to 16 cm] tall), the solid purple brown, blotched or marbled with olive green, present at blooming, 3 to 7 flowered inflorescence with small, totally white flowers with a broadly ovate-subrhombic, coarsely undulate apical lobe of the labellum." Similar to Sarcoglottis metallica but the new species is a distinctly smaller plant with smaller flowers. It has the smallest flowers of the genus. It can be confused with Helonoma americana but can be separatred by the longer spur and a completely different lip form." Szlachetko & Kolanowska 2019
