Found in Costa Rica at elevations of 1200 meters as a medium sized, warm growing epiphyte with several levels of superposed stout stems enveloped basally by verrucose, tubular sheaths and carrying 2, apical, ligualte, apically unequally retuse leaves that blooms in the spring on a terminal, 6 to 8 flowered inflorescence arising from a group of several bracts with the outer ones being verruculose.

This species is similar to S amparoana but differs in the smaller more numerous flowers with a column foot that bends somewhat upward and the base of the blade is bent upward and again downward with a thick two parted callus at the bend.
