Part Shade cool Spring

Common Name or Meaning The Sin Ho Bulbophyllum [A district of Lai Chau province of Vietnam]

Flower Size .48 to .56" [1.2 to 1.4 cm]

Found in northern Vietnam in primary and secondary evergreen broad-leaved forests on limestone on wet shady steep slopes at elevation 1200 to 1350 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte and occasionally lithophyte with a creeping, filiform, wiry, young light green, later yellowish-white rhizome with .28 to .8" [.7 to 2 cm] between each, light green, narrowly-ovate to ovate, sometimes slightly oblique, erect or slightly bending towards the rhizome, longitudinally irregularly grooved and wrinkled pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, rigid, coriaceous, narrowly-ovate to ovate, conduplicate, bilobed at apex, attenuate below into a very shortly petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring on an arising from base of pseudobulb, ascending, rigid, filiform, light greenish stalk .6 to 1" [1.5 to 2.5 cm] long, provided with 2 small insignificant yellowish hyaline bracts at the base and in lover third, 1 to 2 flowered inflorescence with light yellowish hyaline, narrowly-ovate, acute, as long as the ovary floral bracts.

"This unusual dwarf plant resembles the Malayan B. planibulbe (Ridl.) Ridl. and B. diplantherum Carr. in its floral structure. From both mentioned species, as well as from other known species of the SECTION Desmosanthes [Bl.] J.J. Sm. 1933 it differs in the very small size of plant and proportionally very large flowers. According to vegetative morphology, our plant certainly approaches to some species of the SECTION Macrocaulia (Bl.) Aver 1994." Averyanov 2007
