Found in southern Nigeria at elevations around 900 meters as a mini-miniature sized, warm growing epiphyte with .8" [2 cm] between each erect to ascending, ellipsoid , slightly compressed, smooth pseudobulbs carrying 2 apical, divergent to patent, oblong to elliptic-oblong, rotund, shortly unequally bilobulate, somewhat canaliculate base leaves that blooms in the fall on a basal, peduncle filiform, 2.8" [7 cm] long, rachis slightly flexuous, 3.2" [8 cm] long, about 5 flowered inflorescence with ovate, acute, longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying sessile, patent flowers
"This very characteristic looking species differs from the other species in its more open flowers, which are also larger than in G apetala Schltr. though not so large as in G macrantha . It may also be distinguished by the end of the recurved middle lobe of the labellum being free for some distanmce from the lower surface of the labellum, whereas in other species this lobe is almost entirely adnate. The very slender peduncle is also noteworthy as well as the short rachis." Summerhayes 1957
