Common Name Dusen's Habenaria [Swedish Engineer and Plant Collector in Brazil early 1900's]

Flower Size 1" [2.5 cm]

Found in Venezuela, French Guiana, Surinam?, Matto Grosso, Goias, Parana', Minas Gerais and Sao Paulo states of Brazil in open grasslands, swamps and shrublands at elevations of 50 to 600 meters as a small to medium sized, hot to warm growing terrestrial with a slender, erect stem carrying 4 to 5, distichous, linear, acute, basally adpressed leaves that blooms in the later spring and summer on an erect, terminal, 3.2" [8 cm] long, laxly 1 to 7 flowered inflorescence with lanceolate-ovate, acuminate, much shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying greenish-yellow flowers.

"Similar in habit to both H schomburgkii and H sprucei but distinguished from the later by the longer spur .96 to 1.04" [2.4 to 2.6 cm versus .32 to .48" [.8 to 1.2 cm] and the anterior petal lobe of H dusenii is twice longer than the posterior petal lobe while in H sprucei they are the same to just slightly longer. According to Batista [2208] this species is similar in flower morphology to H rodiensis, H longipedicellata and H longipedicellata but H schomburgkii and H dusenii the rostellum middle lobe is less prominent and inserted between the anterior petal lobe which is twice longer than the posterior one versus shorter to equal to the posterior one and the spur is shorter than the pedicellate ovary versus longer than the pedicellate ovary."
