Part sun Hot Cool Summer EARLYFall

Common Name Leprieur's Habenaria French Botanist and Collector in Fr Guiana and Brazil 1800's]

Flower Size .4" [1 cm]

Found in Belize, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Fr Guiana, Surinam, Trinidad & Tobago and Brazil in shrublands and savannahs at elevations of 50 to 1100 meters as a medium sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial with 1 to 7, distichous, smaller leaves that blooms in the summer and early fall on a terminal, racemose, .8 to 3.2" [2 to 8 cm] long, few to many flowered inflorescence with erect, three nerved, shorter than the ovary floral bracts.

The drawing and specimen are correct, the photo however is questionable.

Very similar to H mesodactyla but this one has shorter lateral lobes than the midlobe and anterior lobe of the petals.

+"Renz (1992) considered H. culmiformis a synonym of H. leprieuri and we follow this position here. Distinctive features from other closely related species such as H. alpestris and H. heptadactyla are the completely green flowers and the width of the lateral sepals (1 mm in H. leprieuri and 1.5-2 mm in H. alpestris and H. heptadactyla). Also, the flowers are spaced in the inflorescence and the ovary is mostly parallel to the inflorescence axis and at least half covered by the bracts. The species is typical of humid places, usually growing in areas with water over the soil."
