Found in Cundinamarca department of Colombia at elevations around 2200 meters as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with 5, in a basal rosette, lanceolate, acute, asymetric, thin, delicate, reddish tinged, narrowing below into the delicate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the later spring on an erect, terminal, peduncle to 16" [40 cm] long, provided with a single, narrow, acute, short, herbaceous, sparsely glandular at the base sheathing bract, rachis 4.8" [12 cm] long, subsecund, laxly 10 flowered infloresccencewith ovate-lanceolate, subacute, herbaceous, thin, glandular outside, longer than the ovary floral bracts.
"At first glance P asinus appears to be similar to Pelexia novofriburgensis but easily distinguished by the erect flowers set on the long and erect pedicel, narrow conical-falcate spur apex, the very large and fleshy basal lip auricles which are about twice the size of the elliptic epichile. The hypochile is obovate." Szlachetko 1993
"P asinus has erect flowers which are somewhat similar to P palmorchidis but the leaves of P asinus are much smaller, lanceolate and the lip is ornamented by large, prominent basal auricles almost completely connate to the claw. The leaves of P palmorchidis are large, the largest in the genus, reaching up to 24" [60 cm] long,, almost cordate-ovate and the basal lip auricles are much shorter and free."
