Common Name The Helmeted Pleurothallis [refers to the dorsal sepal]
Flower Size .4" [1 cm]
Found in Pichincha province of Ecuador without elevations as a small to medium sized, cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with suberect to horizontal, slender to relatively stout ramicauls with a close tubular sheath on the lower third and another 1 to 2 at the base and carrying a single, apical, suberect to spreading, thickly coriaceous, oblong-ovate, obtuse, shortly acuminate, deeply cordate below into the sessile base leaf that blooms in the spring on fascile, arising through and concealed by a spathe, of successively single, few flowered inflorescence with a thin, tubular, half as long as the pedicel floral bract.
"Most similar to the equally large flowered P grandiflora but distinguished by the large leaf, glabrous sepals [except for a microscopic pubescence of the laterals] and smooth petals and lip. The lip is about half as long with the sides decurved above the middle." Luer 2005
Synonyms Acronia corysta (Luer) Luer 2005; Zosterophyllanthos corysta (Luer) Szlach. & Kulak 2006
