Common Name Nelly's Pleurothallis [Colombian Orchid Enthusiast Current]

Flower Size .2" [5 mm]

Found in Valle de Cauca department of Colombia without elevational data as a small sized, caespitose epiphyte with ramicauls enveloped by 2 tubular shaths and carrying a single, apical, oblong-elliptic, fleshy leaf that blooms in the late spring and summer on a racemose, longer than the leaf, to 8" [20 cm] long or more, apically sub-flexuous, successively several flowered inflorescence with oblique, acute, conduplicate floral bracts.

"Pleurothallis nellyae appeared in Cali some years ago and is found in different orchid gardens of Valle del Cauca. Through the genereal appearance of the plant and of the inflorescence it is similar to Pleurothallis erinacea Rchb. f. and to Pleurothallis otopetalum Schltr., but is clearly distinguished from them by the shape of the lip: provided with an unguiculate, deeply curved hypochile, with two auricles at the base, and a densely papillose epichile."
