Flower Size .4" [1 cm]

Found in Pichincha province of Ecuador at elevations around 1600 meters as a miniature to small sized, cool growing, caespitose epiphyte with slender, erect ramicauls with a close tubular sheath below the middle and another at the base carrying a single, suberect, coriaceous, narrowly ovate, acute, sessile, shallowly cordate base leaf that blooms in the summer on a short peduncle hidden within the spathe .4" [1 cm] long, successively single flowered inflorescence with a tubular, half as long as the pedicel floral bract and carrying a red-purple flower.

"This species from the western slopes of the Andes of Ecuador is similar to the variable, widely distributed P matudana but P tandapiensis differs in the small, narrowly ovate leaves and broader, denticulate petals. It had been considered a variation of P matudana because both have a thick and arcuate lip." Luer 2005
