Found in Tolima department of Colombia on the central Cordillera of the Andes at elevations around 2100 to 2200 meters as a small to medium sized, cold growing caespitose epiphyte with generally arching, terete, thin ramicauls enveloped by 3 to 4 tubular, dark brown sheaths and carrying a single, apical, coriaceous, perpendicular to the ramicaul, microscopically papilose, brilliant, ovate, acuminate apically, lobulate below into the base leaf that blooms in the winter on a lateral, arising through an ovate, papery and fibrous, acute spathe, peduncle .72 to .84" [1.8 to 2.1 cm] long, fasciculate, single to occasionally 2 flowered inflorescence with a tubular, shorter to just a bit longer than the pedicel floral bract.
"Similar to P callosa only from Costa Rica, P cardiothallis and P titan both from Colombia but P villahermosa differs in the falcate-lanceolate petals and a shorter, quadrangulae-ovate lip with 2 basal, oblong, forward facing, fleshy, somewhat elevated, convergent, encircling the glenion projections. P villahermosa can also be compared to P dewildei but it differs in the triangular-ovate petals and the widely cordate-ovate lip."
