Common Name Helen's Bulbophyllum - In China Jiao E Juan Ban Lan
Flower Size 1 3/5" [4 cm]
Found in Yunnan province of China, the western Himalayas, Nepal, Sikkim, Myanmar and Thailand in montane forests as a small sized, warm to cold growing epiphyte or lithophyte at elevations of 800 to 2700 meters with 1.2 to 2.4" [3 to 6 cm] between each long-ovoid pseudobulb carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, oblong, narrowing below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the later spring and summer on a basal, 2 to 3” [5 to 7.5 cm] long inflorescence with imbricate, tubular sheaths and narrowly lanceolate, acute floral bracts and carrying 5 to 9 stinky flowers.
This cute orchid requires shade, very humid conditions and regular water and fertilizer year round.
This species and B forrestii are very similar but differ mostly in the erose dorsal sepal found in this species and the entire margin dorsal sepal of B forrestii
This species and B nodosum but it differs in having nodular swellings on the thick rhizome and has somewhat larger sepals.
