Hey You All! I am going to ride my bicycle from Miami to Key West on November 4th. Yes that is me last year on the bridge over Card Sound! 165 miles in 2 days on busy US 1. The ride is called the Smart Ride and is sponsored by 5 different AIDS Charities in South Florida. I need to raise 1200.00 to enter the ride and last year many of you sent in donations in my name and helped me get involved.
I made the ride last year even though there was a wicked headwind, gusting to 30 miles an hour. The first day was 105 miles and there were 165 riders, only 55 finished and I was #30. Pretty good for an old guy [52]. The second day is only 55 miles and we all finish together in a big parade down the main street of Key West and finish at our local AIDS memorial.
I am personally involved because I have lost many friends to AIDS since 1980 and I especially am involved because of the deaths of my two great friends and employees, Henry Atwood [1998] and Gregory King [2004], both who loved orchids and went with me on many an orchid adventure over the years.
