Common Name Farfani's Telipogon [Peruvian Biologist and original collector of Species current]
Flower Size 1.6 to 2.1" [to 5.3 cm]
Found in Peru in cold cloud forests at elevations of 3450 to 3500 meters as a small sized, cold growing epiphyte with a stem carrying a few basal, oblanceolate to lanceolate, acuminate leaves that blooms in the fall and winter on an erect to recurved, compressed, 4" [10 cm] long, successively single, 1 to 3 flowered inflorescence with an ovate-triangular, acuminate, dorsally carinate, floral bract.
"Telipogon farfanii differs from T. tessellatus Lindl. in its larger flowers, and sagittate and convex callus. In T. tessellatus, the petals are ca. .48 x .48" [1.2 × 1.2 cm], the lip ca. .48 X .8" [1.2 × 2 cm], and the callus is pad-shaped. Telipogon farfanii is similar to the Ecuadorian species T. jimburensis Dodson & R. Escobar but is distinguished by the form of the callus and stigma. Telipogon jimburensis has a trilobed callus, and an unlobed stigma; in addition, the column has an upturned apicule under the stigma. Telipogon octavioi Dodson & R. Escobar is similar to T. farfanii, but this species from Colombia and Ecuador has smaller flowers, the petals 9-nerved, the lip 11 to 13-nerved, and a tongue-like callus."
