Common Name Tobar's Pleurothallis [Ecuadorian Orchid Enthusiast Current]
Flower Size .6" [1.5 cm]
Found in Morona-Santiago province of Ecuador at elevations around 2800 meters as a small sized, cold growing, caespitose epiphyte with slender, erect, ramcaiuls enveloped by 2 to 3 short basal sheaths and carrying a single, apical, more or less horizontal, coriaceous, narrowly ovate, acuminate, acute, abruptly narrowing below into the deeply cordate, sessile base leaf that blooms in the spring on a short, arising and confined within a suberect, conduplicate spathe at the base of the leaf, successively single, few flowered inflorescence with shorter than the pedicel floral bracts.
"Similar to P tobarii and P muriculata in the pubescent or hispidous sheaths of the ramicauls which is a rare occurence within the section Macrophyllae-Fasciculatae. Withthe conspicuous spathe P tobarii is apparently related to P lilijae and not closely related to either of the above species." Luer 2006
Part of the Pleurothallis cardiostola/Pleurothallis lilijae complex.
