Found in the Mt Kinabalu area of Borneo in upper montane scrub forests at elevations of 2700 to 3000 meters as a small sized, cold, pendent growing epiphyte with small, globose to ovoid pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, lanceolate, acute, gradually narrowing below into the petiolate base leaf, that blooms in the fall on a terminal, pendent, racemose, two-ranked, 3.2" [8 cm] long, several flowered inflorescence

"Reminiscent of D transversum in the callus of the lip, and the angled petals and sometimes cymbiform lip recall D alpinum. The short stelida and twisted petals are characters shared withD alatum. There are 2 distinct color forms of the flowers one with lemon-yellow tepals and a chestnut brown to orange labellum and the other entirely salmon-pink." J J Smith 2001
