Full shade Spring

Common Name or Meaning Verboonen's Pleurothallis [Named for the late George Ver-boonen in whose collection at Orquidario Binot this species was cultivated]

Flower Size .2" [5 mm]

Found in Brazil without locational data as a mini-miniature sized, densely caespitose epiphyte with slender erect ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3, tin, tubular, non-dilated sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, green, speckled with purple, coriaceous, elliptical, obtuse, minutely apiculate, broadly cuneate below in to the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring on an erect, arising from near the apex of the ramicaul, peduncle .8 to 1.2" [2 to 3 cm] long, rachis loose, subflexuous, to 2.4" [6 cm] long, successively single, several flowered inflorescence with shorter than to as long as the pedicel floral bracts.

"It is characterized by ramicauls about as long as the elliptical, purple-speckled leaves. The flowers are produced successively in a loose, subflexuous raceme that exceeds the leaf severalfold. The most distinguishing feature of the flower is a distinct, deeply hollow, thimble-like apex of the dorsal sepal. It is similar to that of the Central American Pleurothallis digitalis and P. segregatifolia." Toscano & Luer 2002
