`SECTION Altisceptrum J.J.Sm. 1914
LectoType species: Ephippium elongatum = Bulbophyllum elongatum [Bl] Hassk.
Characterized by a many flowered, elongate inflorescence, the basal node of the pedicel is level with the attachment of the floral bract, the shape and size of the petals which are 2/3's the size of the median sepal or longer and widest close to the base, either gradually narrowing towards the tip, or somewhat constricted halfway and with a thickened apex. The pseduobulbs are almost always marked with purple and carry a single, persistent leaf.
There are 9 species currently in this section that is confined to India, Bhutan, China, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Borneo, The Philippines and Papua New Guinea occuring in keranga, limestone and montane forests at elevations up to 3000 meters
Entries below with an asterix are listed in publications by J J Vermeullen etal.[2014/15] and so are more likely correct than ones without. Species with a question mark in front, seem to me to not conform and so please use with caution. If a sectional name has a "`" in front then it is a complete section with all the known species represented.
