Common Name or Meaning Edith's Encyclia [Refers to Edith Mairnelli Oliveira Brazilian Orchid Enthusiast current]

Flower Size 1.2" [3 cm]

Found in Amazonas state of Brazil along rivers in rainforests at elevations of 100 to 300 meters as a small sized, hot growing epiphyte with ovate-elongate pseudobulbs enveloped by imbricating, evanescent sheaths carrying 1 to 2, apical, erect, coriaceous, smooth, narrowly lanceolate leaves that blooms in the Brazilian spring and summer an a terminal, erect, paniculate, 24" [60 cm] long, to 30 flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, stem-clasping bracts and carrying fragrant flowers.

Now said to be a synonym of Encyclia replicata but E edithiana differs in the much smaller plant, much smaller flowers with spathulate petals. I have left it separate pending better references.

E maderoi, E magdalenae, E edithiana, E garzonensis and E expansa are all considered to be E replicata by Kew. I have kept them all separate for now.
